Slightly healthier than their predecessor the flapjack, by virtue of all the seeds, granola bars make for great comfort baking any weekend in our view.

And then you have an exceedingly tasty treat to grace your lunchbox for the week ahead. Win, win.

 45mins | Makes 12 | 294 kcals per bar | easy

 100g butter   P1000961

200g oats

100g dried cranberries (or cherries, blueberries or a mix)

50g pistachio nuts, roughly chopped

50g sesame seeds

75g sunflower kernels

100g muscovado sugar

3 tbsp honey

1 tsp cinnamon

Oven on and up to 160C/fan 140C/gas mark 3. Butter a 18 x 25cm baking tray.

Mix the oats, seeds and nuts in a roasting tin and toast them in the oven for 10mins.

Melt the butter, honey and sugar together in a pan. Once the butter is fully melted, add the oat mix, cinnamon and dried fruit to the pan and stir well until all the oats are well coated.

Grab that baking tray from earlier, tip the mixture in the tray and press down lightly to ensure the mixture evenly coats the whole tray. Bake for 30mins, checking after 25mins just in case. Let them cool in the tray, then cut into 12 squares or bars as you prefer.
